Denmark's government nominates Minister for Development Cooperation Dan Jørgensen as the country's new EU Commissioner.
Dan has participated in climate negotiations in the UN and shown that he can handle himself internationally. I am certain that Dan will be a good Commissioner for Denmark and Europe in an increasingly uncertain world, says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a press conference according to the news agency Ritzau.
The nomination means that it will become even more difficult for re-elected Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to achieve a gender-balanced EU Commission. So far, 17 countries have proposed men, while only five have put forward a woman, including Sweden in the form of EU Minister Jessika Roswall (The Moderate Party).
The new Commission will take office at the earliest in November, after all nominated candidates have been scrutinized by the EU Parliament.
