The police have long had a theory about who the individuals were, but the final identification has been delayed due to forensic medical analyses.

There has been a hypothesis about who these two individuals were and it has proven to be correct, says senior prosecutor Magnus Pettersson.

The incident is now being investigated as a murder by both Swedish and British police.

When we suspect that two British citizens have been murdered, we naturally contact British authorities. They are also working on this and conducting their own preliminary investigation, says Pettersson.

The two Britons rented a car at Kastrup and then drove to Malmö. What happened afterwards, Pettersson does not want to comment on at present, nor why they were in Malmö.

What I can say is that the picture of how they moved and what happened is becoming clearer all the time. An extensive investigative work is being carried out and there is still much to be done.

We are working on the basis that we will solve this and bring clarity to what happened and who did it.

Pettersson does not want to comment on the cause of death.

No one has been detained in the case yet.
