Ismail Abdo, the so-called "Jordgubben", who was arrested earlier this year in a major operation against criminal networks in Turkey, used the export of citrus fruits as a cover during his time in Turkey.

This is reported by SR Ekot, which can now reveal several details about the internationally wanted Abdo's long stay in the country before the arrest.

Sweden had informed the Turkish authorities about three different crime suspicions against Ismail Abdo. The work to arrest him went on for about a year in Turkey, says the Turkish crime reporter Devrim Tosunoglu to Ekot.

Lived as a businessman

Ismail Abdo, who has been detained in his absence suspected of several serious crimes, has since he left Sweden several years ago kept himself hidden in Turkey, where he has Turkish citizenship.

He settled in cities like Bodrum and Adana where he changed his name, lived an apparently quiet life as a businessman, and claimed to work with the export of citrus fruits.

Cooperation with Turkey

Prosecutor Hanna Lemoine does not want to comment on details about Abdo, but says that the cooperation with the Turkish authorities has been going on since she took office as chamber prosecutor in the autumn of 2023.

Since then, I have worked intensively to create closer contacts with Turkey, she says to Ekot.

Ismail Abdo is detained in Turkey suspected of several serious crimes. It is still unclear when he can be brought to justice.
