"Mikael can start competing again on January 17 and the plan is to add his name to the team", says DC captain Simon Aspelin in a press release.
"It will clearly be an adjustment for him to go from a long competition break to starting to play real matches again. He has, however, played at the highest level for many years, so he has tennis in him and the mental strength. I feel comfortable that he will play at a high level".
The four names selected on Friday are Elias Ymer, Leo Borg, André Göransson and Filip Bergevi.
Sweden is really at a disadvantage against Australia, which is currently the world's second-best tennis nation.
"Australia has world stars in both singles and doubles. They are big favorites, but I still feel that we have a chance to give them a really good match", says Aspelin.
The match is played in Stockholm. The winner advances to a second qualifying round.
