There is a high degree of cynicism involved when you get paid to travel to another country to shoot another human being, says the judge when the verdict is announced in the Copenhagen district court, reports Danish Tv2.
The teenager is charged with having come to Denmark in April to carry out a murder assignment and he is convicted of attempted murder and attempted possession of weapons, reports news agency Ritzau.
He is one of the first to be convicted in the long line of young Swedes who have been charged or suspected of this type of crime in Denmark.
Received instructions
The teenager arrived in Copenhagen on April 25 after a more than 12-hour train journey from northern Sweden and according to the court, it is proven that he came to shoot a person.
The court places great emphasis on the boy's communication with the client via the media platforms Telegram and Snapchat. Among other things, he received the instruction to go to Nørrebro station and replied yes to doing so – but he was caught by the police before the plan was carried out.
He has also repeatedly assured those he communicated with that he would carry out the assignment.
He himself has claimed that he regretted it and decided to pull out before he was caught, but the court sees no evidence of this.
"Not happy"
He has voluntarily withdrawn and chosen not to carry out the act, and there is nothing in the evidence that contradicts this, says his defense attorney Danyal Tirpin to TT.
The attorney believes that the 16-year-old should be fully acquitted and has agreed with his client to appeal.
He is incomprehensible and he is not happy about the verdict, says Danyal Tirpin.
When the verdict was announced, the boy was taken back to custody after hugging his mother, reports Tv2.
An adult person in Denmark would have been sentenced to six years in prison for the crime, but the sentence is reduced somewhat due to the defendant's young age.
