Denmark has 28 consecutive victories in World Championship contexts, and was during its premiere match of this year's home World Championship on the hunt for its 29th. In advance, it looked like it would be a piece of cake for the Danes, as Algeria stood for opposition.
But maybe there were some premiere nerves among the Danes after all. The Algerian goalkeeper, Khalifa Ghedbane, made some initial saves and Algeria kept pace during the initial seven-eight minutes.
Then the Danish players had warmed up and shifted gears.
Supported by a red sea of spectators in the stands around the World Championship arena in Herning, the Danes took off more and more, and at halftime, the three-time reigning champion had secured a nine-goal lead with 20–11. And in the second half, the Danes didn't slow down.
The final score was 47–22, and Denmark could cash in its 29th consecutive victory in World Championship contexts.
The group also includes Italy and Tunisia, and when the two clashed earlier on the premiere day, Italy won with 32–25. In addition to Denmark, the World Championship is also being played in Norway and Croatia.
