Haiti's transition council is to dismiss the sitting interim Prime Minister Garry Conille by decree, and replace him with businessman and politician Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. Thus, the chaotic political merry-go-round continues in the country ravaged by violence, crisis, and gang crime.
The official announcement is expected on Monday, but the decision was leaked on Sunday evening.
Haiti's transition council was established in April after the previous Prime Minister was ousted following, among other things, pressure from the USA. At that time, Haiti had fallen into complete chaos, with the real power lying with armed, criminal groups in large parts of the Caribbean nation.
The transition council was also supposed to pave the way for a new parliament, but several members of the council have in turn been accused of corruption.
Garry Conille took office in June and replaced Michel Boisvert, who had been acting Prime Minister for just over three months.
Conille has a past as Prime Minister of Haiti for a year in 2011. He has also worked in UN missions in several vulnerable countries, including Haiti.
