Despite the controversies in Malmö in the spring, where the favorite-tipped artist Joost Klein was stopped in the Eurovision final, the Netherlands will participate in the competition in 2025.

The announcement comes tonight from the state TV channel Avrotros, which claims to have received "sufficient guarantees" for improved artist protection from the organizers.

It has long been unclear whether the Netherlands would participate in the 2025 edition of the European Championship in Song Contest, which will take place in Basel, Switzerland. The European Broadcasting Union, EBU, which oversees the event, disqualified Klein just hours before the final on May 11 after an incident with a female camera operator – a move that the Dutch TV company called "disproportionately strict".

"After months of discussions, the channel has received sufficient guarantees from the EBU that structural changes will be made to the music festival", it says in a statement.

The package of measures includes, among other things, the appointment of a security officer among the artists and a significant reduction in the amount of filming behind the scenes.

Despite the new rules, Joost Klein is said to have declined the invitation to participate in next year's competition, according to Avrotros.
