One person was airlifted to hospital by ambulance helicopter from Simonberget south of Nyköping on Friday evening.

According to Södermanlands Nyheter, it concerns a man who fell from the mountain, a common spot for climbing. The circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear. The man's condition is also unclear.

It's incredibly rare for something like this to happen, but unfortunately, it does happen sometimes. There's an enormous amount of climbing going on at Simonberget, and in relation to how much climbing is done, these accidents are very rare, says Andreas Andersson, safety officer at the Swedish Climbing Federation, to SN.

According to Andreas Andersson, the man fell about 20 meters.

The annual Tunabergsträffen event is being held at Simonberget this weekend. It's unclear how the accident will affect the event.
