DJI has been on the Pentagon's "black list" of Chinese companies since 2022, among other things due to allegations that the drones are used to monitor the Uyghur minority in China. The company has also been accused of helping the Russian side in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The company claims to have tried to discuss the issue with the Pentagon for 16 months, but ultimately saw no other alternative than to turn to the court.

"On October 18, DJI filed a lawsuit against the defense department's incorrect decision to label the company as a "Chinese military company", writes DJI in a statement, while denying any connection to the Chinese military.

"DJI manufactures civilian and commercial drones, not military ones".

DJI is also used by the Swedish police and the company has stores in Stockholm.
