According to eyewitness accounts to the local newspaper Main Echo, a group of preschool children were attacked when they were in a centrally located park with two educators during lunchtime. They were allegedly stalked by a man who apparently targeted the children.
The 41-year-old man was killed by the perpetrator when he tried to intervene between the children and the perpetrator.
A 28-year-old suspected perpetrator was arrested at a train station not far from the crime scene shortly after the incident. Currently, there is no apparent motive, and no connection has been found between the suspect and any of the children or educators.
Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is reportedly on his way to Aschaffenburg.
