The retraining study support was launched in 2022 by the labour market parties together with the state. The support is intended for adults in the middle of their working life who want to study and provides, during the study period, both a grant and a loan amount.

Until now, the application for the support has opened at midnight, which has received criticism from several quarters. But when the application opens on April 1 this year, it will be at 8 pm.

Following a request from CSN, the government has changed the rules and gives CSN the right to decide when the application should open.

"The fact that the application has opened at midnight has been uncomfortable for many. Therefore, CSN submitted a request to the government that we ourselves should be able to decide when the application should open", says Annika Fahlander, head of the payment department at CSN, in a press release.

The application for retraining study support opens on April 1 for those who will start studying during the autumn semester and on October 1 for those who will start studying during the spring semester.

The handling of applications has received criticism since the start, including that individuals who have applied in some cases have had to wait over a year for a decision.

The allocation for retraining study support in 2025 is 4.88 billion kronor and is expected to cover 30,000 people.

In 2024, approximately 12,500 people received retraining study support.

So far, approximately 2,000 people have been granted retraining study support for studies in 2025.
