Prime Ministers come, Prime Ministers go, but "Larry the cat", he remains. The former stray cat now welcomes his sixth master to 10 Downing Street.
When Britain's new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer moves into the Prime Minister's residence at 10 Downing Street, he gets a pet on the side. And "Larry the cat" is no ordinary cat. He is not only the one who keeps the residence free from rats and other rodents, he is also a frequently photographed celebrity with 843,000 followers on X.
Larry, who is a grey and white tabby, came to 10 Downing Street from a home for homeless cats in 2011. He has served under Prime Ministers David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak during his 13 years of service. His official title is Chief Mouser of the Prime Minister's residence.
According to British media, Larry is known for being a peaceful cat, who patiently waits outside the polished door to the Prime Minister's residence until a guard lets him in. Whether he will react as peacefully to the Starmer family's own cat, Jojo, who will also be moving into 10 Downing Street, remains to be seen.
