The owner of the Russian vessel Ursa Major, which sank in the Mediterranean, claimed on Wednesday that a terrorist act was behind the shipwreck. The vessel sank on Tuesday after an explosion in the engine room. Two sailors from the 16-person crew are missing, according to the Russian state news agency Ria.
Russia's Foreign Ministry had previously stated that it was an accident.
The ship's responsible parties say that the cargo consisted of, among other things, cranes needed for the heavily strained port operations in Vladivostok, but international observers speculate that the vessel's actual destination was the Syrian coast and the Russian military bases in Syria.
The incident occurred between Spain and Algeria.
