Over 2000 Pakistani rescue workers are struggling on Sunday in knee-deep mud to find survivors in demolished houses in the country's mountainous northern part.
"The operation to rescue people trapped under the debris is ongoing. There is a concern that dozens of people may still be trapped under the debris. The chances of those buried under the debris surviving are very small", says Bilal Ahmed Faizi from the rescue service of the province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The mountain districts Buner, Bajaur, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra and Battagram have been declared as disaster areas.
Pakistan's meteorological institute warns that the downpours "are likely to intensify" from Sunday with more floods and landslides in the country's northwestern part as a result.
Since the heavy monsoon rains began in June, at least 650 people have died and more than 910 have been injured.
India has also been affected by heavy monsoon rains, and there, more than 60 people were reported to have lost their lives on Friday.
