The now 82-year-old Ferguson is said to receive approximately 27 million kronor (2 million pounds) per season for his role as ambassador for the club. Ferguson led Manchester United to, among other things, 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League victories before leaving the coaching position in 2013. In total, it was 38 titles during his 27 years at the club.
In September, Manchester United reported a loss of approximately 1.5 billion kronor – 113.2 million pounds – for the 2023-2024 season, according to the club's financial report.
This is the fifth season in a row that United is going backwards. The 2022-2023 season, for example, saw the club's losses amount to 28.7 million pounds, and the season before that, the loss was as high as 115 million pounds.
Manchester United has had a dismal start to this year's Premier League season. The team is in 14th place after seven rounds.
