Marlena Jawaid, Sweden's only Olympic Games participant in modern pentathlon, fell off her horse during training in Stockholm almost two weeks ago and has suffered a fracture in the metacarpal bone in her right hand, reports Radiosporten.

The 23-year-old Olympic debutant, who was born in Bulgaria, will compete in Paris with a special protection.

I'm left-handed, so luckily I mostly use my left hand in modern pentathlon. Of course, I have to swim with both hands. But if what happened to my right hand had happened to my left hand, it would have been over, she says to Radiosporten.

On Thursday, the women's modern pentathlon begins with a ranking round in fencing. The sport also includes horse riding, swimming, running, and shooting (laser).

After the Olympic Games in Paris, horse riding will be removed and replaced by obstacle running.
