Hard to know what to put under the Christmas tree?
Then you might want to hit on this year's Christmas gift, the unisex perfume, a present that is said to suit both men and women. The unisex perfume is really making a comeback. This is according to perfumer and fragrance expert Ellen Dahlgren.
Guys experiment
It's really cool that it's on its way back. Actually, historically, all perfume is unisex. It was only in the 1950s in the US that they started selling women's and men's fragrances. Now you can see that interest in unisex is big again, especially among young guys, she says.
You see young guys who dare to experiment and don't just choose a woody scent. Young guys who dare to buy a floral scent, that's really cool.
Perfume and fragrance have overall gotten a significant boost lately. New figures from Tradera show that the sale of used perfume has increased by as much as 54 percent this year at the sales giant. Ellen Dahlgren is not surprised.
The second-hand market has grown so much because perfume is really expensive. Sometimes it's surprising that a 14-year-old can spend 4,000 kronor on a new perfume. That's what I paid for a moped, she says.
Storage is important
If you buy a used perfume, you can make a really good deal. But there are also pitfalls.
The most important thing is to ensure that it's an authentic perfume, there are many copies being sold. One way to do it is to check the batch number, says Dahlgren.
You can also try to check up on the seller. And the price, of course. If a perfume that costs 4,500 kronor new is sold for a thousand kronor, it's probably too good to be true.
An old truth is that perfumes get worse with age. That's not true. Ellen Dahlgren says that perfume is in many ways like wine, it ages well.
Perfumes don't like light, that's something to think about. Then it happens that the molecules in the top notes become a bit bad. But a perfume that has been stored well, then age doesn't matter.
According to Tradera's statistics, the sale of used perfumes has increased dramatically, by as much as 54 percent, on the sales giant's site during the year.
Damp perfumes account for 75 percent of the sales, and brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Lancôme, Giorgio Armani, and Chanel are the most sought-after.
The most expensive damp perfume sold on Tradera so far this year cost 4,686 kronor, and the most expensive men's perfume went for 7,400 kronor.
