The Olympics in Paris are approaching. Now, France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announces that around 1,000 suspected spies for foreign states have been banned from the Olympics. This is part of Paris' security work ahead of the games.
About one million background checks have been made to screen Olympic volunteers, workers, and others involved. In total, 5,000 people have been banned from the Olympics, and of these, 1,000 suspected spies, according to Darmanin.
We are here to ensure that sports are not exploited for espionage, cyberattacks, or to criticize and lie about France and people from France, says Darmanin.
The Olympics in Paris sneak-start on Wednesday and have an official opening on Friday.
