In recent months, around 50 patients have been infected with a multiresistant bacterium at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (SU).

I can say that we have failed in cleaning, says Helena Gustafsson, chief physician at SU, to Göteborgs-Posten.

The first case was discovered in November last year, but in January, SU could establish that the infection had spread.

Helena Gustafsson says that most of the infected have not shown any symptoms and were instead discovered through infection tracking.

Almost all cases have been found on Sahlgrenska's medical wards, but infected individuals have also been identified at Mölndal Hospital and Östra Hospital.

In recent times, SU has worked on infection tracking and has increased cleaning. Furthermore, staffing has been reinforced to limit the infection.

Even though a new case was recently discovered on a ward, Helena Gustafsson now expects that there will be no further infections.
