Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev's party emerged victorious from Sunday's early parliamentary election, claims the country's election commission.
The opposition accuses the regime of electoral fraud. According to the opposition party Musavat, instances of double voting occurred, among other things.
The 62-year-old Aliyev has ruled Azerbaijan with an iron fist since 2003. No elections held in the country during his two decades in power have been considered free and fair by international observers.
The parliamentary election was brought forward as the previously set date clashed with the climate conference COP29, which will be held in Baku in November.
