The Government has systematically dismantled large parts of civil society in recent years. This is claimed by spokespersons for 23 associations in a debate article in Aftonbladet – including ABF, the Swedish Homestead Association, the National Organization of River Savers, Swedish Consumers, and the Climate Club.
They point out that study associations and organizations within the environment, climate, peace, culture, and adult education in the non-profit sector have received significantly reduced or completely cut off funding. For example, Sida's information support decreased in 2022 from 155 to 20 million kronor, the Consumer Agency's funding to non-profit associations was completely eliminated in 2023, and the Environmental Protection Agency is now signaling that funding to non-profit associations may be reduced or completely cut off.
According to the debaters, the support has been of the greatest importance for highlighting how the climate transition and the preservation of biological diversity can be implemented. Civil society also represents the voices that would otherwise lack a platform, according to the article.
