Julian Assange says during his first public appearance after his release that he does not have the judicial system to thank for being a free man today.
I pleaded guilty to journalism, to having sought information from a source, he says during a hearing at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
According to the 46 countries of the Council of Europe, Assange will tell about the handling of his case and "its negative effect on human rights".
Australian Assange was released last summer after five years in British prison. Previously, he had been holed up in Ecuador's embassy in the country for seven years, fearing extradition to the USA.
