The 36-year-old artist denies the crime and gets the chance to defend himself when the main trial now begins. On Tuesday, a jury will be appointed, and then the prosecutor will present their case.

Asap Rocky is suspected of firing two shots at his childhood friend Terell Ephron, with whom he had a falling out, in November 2021. The shots allegedly grazed Ephron's knuckles, and Asap Rocky has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. The maximum penalty for the crime is 24 years in prison.

This is not the first time Asap Rocky has been brought to court. Among other things, the artist was sentenced to a conditional sentence for assault in Stockholm in 2019. Before the trial, he was detained for a month, which prompted the President of the USA, Donald Trump, to contact the then Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) with demands that the artist be released from detention.

The presiding judge, Mark Arnold, has announced that TV cameras will be allowed during the trial. Therefore, the trial against Asap Rocky, who has two children with artist Rihanna, is expected to receive a lot of attention.
