The 36-year-old hip-hop star, who is actually named Rakim Mayers, answered "absolutely" to Judge Mark Arnold's question about whether he had discussed the matter with his lawyers. He then said that he chooses to invoke the Fifth Amendment to the American Constitution, meaning that he will not answer any questions about the allegations against him.

I want to invoke my right not to testify, said Rocky.

His lawyer Joe Tacopina said before the trial that Rocky was looking forward to giving his account of the event, "would love the opportunity to do so", but that putting a defendant through a tough interrogation is often a big gamble in criminal cases.

Asap Rocky, who is on trial following an incident in 2021 when he is suspected of having shot at a childhood friend with the artist name Asap Relli, risks up to 24 years in prison if he is convicted. He declined a plea deal before the trial that could have given him 180 days in prison.

The final arguments in the three-week trial will be held on Thursday.
