The Scottish artist Michael Forbes believes that AI has a negative impact on art. To protest, he has painted over several of his own works.

Forbes has many famous fans, including Madonna, Ricky Gervais, and Terry Gilliam. Now, he has taken his paintings of John Lennon and Taylor Swift and covered them with black paint.

Under the black paint, there are hours of work that I'm proud of. In some sense, I'm completely crushed, says Forbes to BBC.

The artist's action is a protest against how artificial intelligence affects art. Forbes describes it as AI having made the internet oversaturated with images and also using artists' work without giving the original creator recognition.

Forbes says that many human artists feel frustrated about having to compete with AI-generated images and therefore have started to give up.
