A 35-year-old man has been executed by the authorities in Singapore. It is the fourth execution that has taken place in the country within three weeks.
The man was sentenced to death in 2013 for drug smuggling. He had dual citizenship in Singapore and Iran, and the Iranian government appealed as late as Thursday for the sentence to be retried. The execution is said to have taken place early on Friday.
The small city-state has very strict drug laws, where possession of more than 15 grams of heroin can lead to the death penalty.
On November 15, two men, 39 and 53 years old, were hanged, and a week later, a 55-year-old man was hanged. The three had also been convicted of drug offenses.
