Make Skellefteå a center for electrification and battery production in Sweden. This message is conveyed by several parties in a letter to the government.

Behind the letter are Skellefteå municipality, Region Västerbotten, and the County Administrative Board, since the crisis-stricken battery manufacturer Northvolt applied for bankruptcy protection in the USA.

"We see an opportunity for the government to make the Skellefteå region an education, research, and innovation cluster for advanced battery manufacturing, research, and innovations. Such an investment would provide conditions for developing and attracting international competence," says Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Governor of Västerbotten in a press release.

In the letter, a comparison is made to how the Västra Götaland region has become a cluster for the Swedish automotive industry, and if Skellefteå can now become the same within electrification, the two can benefit from each other.
