In the beginning of November, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were forced to evacuate after being hit by mud in the face in Paiporta in the Valencia region.
Also present on the walk around the severely flooded city were Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and regional leader Carlos Mazón, who have been heavily criticized for not doing enough to prevent the disaster that led to the deaths of over 220 people.
Murderers, murderers, some of the affected shouted.
Several other stops in the region were planned during the trip. They were postponed, announced the Spanish royal court.
Now the royal couple is back in Valencia, report several Spanish media outlets. This time, they have brought Carlos Mazón and two ministers from the central government with them.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is attending the G20 meeting in Brazil – "where he should be", according to King Felipe VI, reports El País.
The first stop is the town of Chiva, which they were supposed to visit in the beginning of November. Even this time, slogans have been heard, directed at both the Prime Minister and the regional leader:
"Mazón, resign, murderers", have been shouted by people on site – although they have been drowned out by cheers for the royal family, according to El País.
226 people have been confirmed dead since the heavy rainfall triggered flooding in the Valencia region. The regional government has been accused of poor preparedness and of being slow to send help and to request assistance from the central government and the EU.
