A Libyan man suspected of war crimes and crimes against humanity has been arrested in Germany since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant, reports BBC.
Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri, commonly known as "Al-Buti", is said to have been one of the highest-ranking officials at the Mitiga prison outside the capital Tripoli, where thousands of people have been imprisoned.
He is suspected of having committed, ordered or supervised crimes, including torture and rape. The crimes are said to have been committed between 2015 and 2020.
ICC has issued 11 arrest warrants in connection with alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Libya since the country's long-time dictator Muammar Gadaffi was overthrown and the country was plunged into a civil war.
