USA and Venezuela have carried out a prisoner exchange on Friday.
USA's Foreign Minister Marco Rubio writes on X that ten American citizens who have been imprisoned in Venezuela have been released. At the same time, El Salvador has returned around 300 Venezuelan migrants who were deported to the country from USA in March, announces El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele on X.
In addition, seven children who were left behind in USA in connection with their parents being deported have been handed over to Venezuela.
El Salvador received the Venezuelans in March in exchange for the American administration agreeing to pay the country six million dollars to house them. The arrangement immediately backfired when Trump invoked a war law from the 18th century to quickly remove men whom his administration accused of belonging to the violent street gang Tren de Aragua.
