In front of empty stands, on neutral ground in rainy Debrecen in Hungary, the Israeli team defeated Besiktas with 3–1 in a match where police patrolled outside the stadium.

The reason for the large security effort is that several Israelis were attacked by people shouting Palestinian slogans in Amsterdam in connection with the meeting with Ajax. Five people were taken to hospital.

Already the day before the match, Dutch authorities warned of a large number of threats against the Israeli team's supporters in social media.

In the Netherlands, the violence has led to extensive debate about anti-Semitism and how to prevent violence against Jews and other groups in the future.
