After Lottery Scandal - Postcode Lottery Pauses

The revelation surrounding the telemarketing company Effective Communication and their sale of the Social Democratic Party's lottery tickets is now prompting Svenska Postkodlotteriet to take action. With immediate effect, the collaboration with the criticized company is being paused, according to press chief Roger Magnergård to TT.

It is really worrying and therefore we decided yesterday to pause all sales via this company until they can guarantee the quality requirements we set, says Roger Magnergård.

The background is information in Dagens Nyheter that the telemarketing company has focused primarily on deceiving older people into buying lottery tickets belonging to Kombispel, the Social Democratic Party's lottery company. Several sellers claim in interviews that they would use an aggressive sales technique and the company has also been reported several times to the Consumer Agency.

Several companies

Roger Magnergård emphasizes that Svenska Postkodlotteriet has only used employees at the company's Stockholm office, not the operations the company has in Barcelona.

It is one of several companies that we use. We use only Effective Communication in Sweden. For us, it is extremely important to work with companies and personnel who are close to our customers, where we can follow up any deficiencies, he says.

If we receive complaints, all calls are recorded and saved. If mistakes have been made, we take appropriate measures.

But why do you still choose to pause the cooperation?

When the company has done as stated in DN, there is reason to review how they work overall. We are now going through what script they follow and how they treat customers if, for example, they get a no.

Has initiated contact

Besides Postkodlotteriet, there are several other large companies that, according to Effective Communications' website, use the company's services, including Telia and Tele2. None of these two currently state that they will break off the cooperation.

"We have contact with Effective Communications, which has initiated an investigation to find out what has happened, and we are awaiting the result of that", writes, among others, Telia's press service in an email to TT.
