For five years, former Minister Ylva Johansson has been responsible for asylum and migration issues in the EU Commission. Now, it is proposed that her job will be taken over by Austria's outgoing Finance Minister Magnus Brunner.

This is welcomed by the SD members in the EU Parliament.

It's a conservative politician from a country that has demanded EU funding for physical border barriers, also called walls, and who has demanded a much tougher policy against illegal migration. So, it will really be a shift, says Charlie Weimers (SD) at a press conference about Tuesday's proposal from President Ursula von der Leyen.

At the same time, he is moderately impressed by the assignment, including environmental responsibility, that has been negotiated for Swedish Commissioner Jessika Roswall.

We usually say that it doesn't pay to be nice in Brussels. A personal reflection is that this gives us a bit of justice, says Weimers.
