The figures come from the battery giant's own internal registration, which SVT has read.

The subjects include, among other things, cancer-causing, reproductive-disrupting and directly life-threatening substances.

No matter how little you are exposed, there is a risk that you will become ill, sometimes after as long as 30-40 years, says Karin Staaf, expert at the Work Environment Authority, to SVT.

In the past year, four people, employed at the Northvolt factory in Skellefteå, have died in their free time. The company has stated that the deaths could not be linked to the workplace. The police, who are investigating the cases, have so far not been able to see any such connection either.

"If we cannot work safely, we do not work at all. Our operations are surrounded by rigorous safety arrangements and are subject to strict environmental permits", responds Northvolt's communications director Matti Kataja to SVT.
