Greek authorities have rescued 147 migrants who attempted to reach the country in small boats during the last 24 hours. Among them was a boat in distress off Lesbos near the Turkish coast, in which 115 people had crammed on board.
According to the coast guard, 67 men, 27 women, and 21 children were taken to a reception center for migrants on Lesbos. The boat sank shortly after the migrants were rescued.
In addition, 25 men and seven boys were rescued from a boat that had gotten into trouble 39 nautical miles (approximately 56 kilometers) off Crete.
According to UN statistics, nearly 30,000 migrants have so far this year illegally entered Greece. This is a slight decrease from the previous year.
