This means that the total death toll from the recent five days of heavy rain is written up to 14. It may, however, continue to rise, as twelve people are still missing.
Nearly 170 millimeters of rain has fallen early on Sunday over Gapyeong in the province of Gyeonggi, seven miles east of Seoul, where the latest two fatalities have been reported.
Most of the 14 deaths have occurred in Sancheong, which has received nearly 800 millimeters of rain since Wednesday.
South Korea is usually well prepared for the monsoon rains and the death toll is usually relatively low. Even in 2022, record rain and flooding occurred, resulting in eleven deaths at the time.
