Five of the Ukrainian soldiers are said to have died in captivity, while the circumstances surrounding the other deaths have not been clarified, the Ukrainian authorities announced on Telegram. Identification of the remains will begin immediately.

The exchange was carried out after an agreement at a low-level meeting on the war previously held in Istanbul, according to the Russian representative Vladimir Medinsky. Ukraine claims that the agreement concerns an exchange of remains of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers and as many Russian. Russia, in turn, says that the decision to return the remains of fallen Ukrainian soldiers is a unilateral Russian decision.

Neither Russia nor Ukraine releases figures on the dead and wounded in the Russian invasion war.
