What it handles: learner permits, issuing, renewing and exchanging driving licences, the vehicle register, vehicle tax, congestion tax in Stockholm and Gothenburg, and the rules on winter tyres.

How to reach it: there are separate phone lines for driving licences and for vehicles. Applications to exchange a foreign licence go to Transportstyrelsen in Örebro by post.

Where people get stuck: most licences from outside the EEA stop being valid one year after you are registered as living in Sweden, and only a few of them can be exchanged. Driving tests themselves are booked with Trafikverket, not here.
