körkort

driving licence

A Swedish driving licence, issued by Transportstyrelsen, which also works as an ID document in Sweden. A licence for a car (category B) must be renewed ten years after it was issued; Transportstyrelsen sends the documents to your registered address.

Foreign licences follow different rules. A licence from an EEA country can be used here and, if you are permanently resident, exchanged. Most licences from outside the EEA stop being valid in Sweden one year after you are registered here, and only those from a few countries, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Japan, can be exchanged.

Others have to take the Swedish tests.
