right of public access
The right of public access, often translated as the right to roam. It lets anyone walk, cycle, ski, swim, pick berries and mushrooms, and camp for a short time in the countryside, including on private land, as long as you show care for nature, animals and landowners.
The principle is often summed up as do not disturb, do not destroy. You may not walk through gardens or close to houses, damage growing crops, or harm trees and wildlife, and stricter rules apply in national parks and nature reserves.
Allemansrätten is a right with responsibilities, not a free pass, so check local rules on fires and fishing.
