Winter tyres with small metal studs for grip on ice. In Sweden they may be used from 1 October to 15 April, and outside that period only if there are, or are expected to be, winter road conditions.

Cars and light trucks may not mix studded and non-studded tyres. Some city streets ban studded tyres altogether to reduce air pollution, so look out for signs.

Winter tyres of some kind, studded or with the Alpine symbol, are required for cars from 1 December to 31 March whenever there are winter conditions on the road, meaning snow, ice, slush or frost.
