Seko's warnings have concerned understaffing, but also falsifying rest-time records.
The Norwegian shipping company Misje is being criticised for having too few crew members. According to the shipping company itself, there were seven on board at the time of the accident. Håkan André, an inspector for the Seko union, says that the number of crew members when he previously inspected the shipping company was six.
Seeing ships of this size with only six men on board is completely unrealistic, he says.
Misje's CEO has not responded to the criticism. The industry organisations for Norwegian and Swedish shipping companies have declined to comment.
