Five years in prison for 19-year-old Swede in Denmark

The trial is the first after the wave of violence involving young Swedes in the neighboring country.

Therefore, I believe that the court has a responsibility to send a very clear signal that it should not be attractive, said the prosecutor during the trial according to TV2.

The case is attracting attention in Denmark because an adjustment to the Danish penal code last summer means that an early admission of guilt in the legal process can lead to a reduced sentence.

In this case, the 19-year-old submitted a written explanation of what had happened shortly after he was arrested. It is thus one of the first cases where the new possibility of a reduced sentence could be applied.

The prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of five and a half years, while the defense attorney thought it reasonable to sentence him to up to three and a half years in prison.

The explosion at a jewelry store in Copenhagen at the end of June caused extensive material damage. However, no one was injured.

In addition to the prison sentence, the 19-year-old is also sentenced to deportation and entry ban.
