Mikael Ymer's 18-month suspension for doping offenses, after failing to report his whereabouts, ended on January 17. As early as next week, he will make his comeback on the tennis court, in a lower-level tournament in Luxembourg.
I'm a bit nervous, actually. It's always different with a match compared to training, so we'll see how my body reacts. But it's just fun to be "back on the road", says Ymer in an interview with his club Salk.
When he was suspended in July 2023, Mikael Ymer, who was ranked 50th in the world at his best, announced that he would end his elite career. But last year, he changed his mind and is now making a new attempt at tennis. He plans to participate in many tournaments during 2025.
Finally, it's over. I'm looking forward to it, I feel ready and in good shape, so it's going to be really fun, says Ymer.
It's going to be a demanding year, but that's what we work for, says Ymer.
In the January-February period, he is expected to compete again in front of a Swedish audience. Sweden's Davis Cup captain Simon Aspelin has left a spot open for Ymer ahead of the match against Australia at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm.
It's going to be fun, but we have a tough task ahead of us. But I think we'll start with Luxembourg, then we'll see how it goes ahead of the "DC" and who gets to play. But I'm loaded, says Ymer.
