The budget is 97.4 billion dollars, equivalent to over 1,000 billion kronor. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The bid has been submitted to Open AI's board, and is seen by the newspaper as part of the struggle between Musk and Open AI's CEO Sam Altman.
Altman responded directly on X, the platform owned by Elon Musk and previously known as Twitter:
"No thanks, but we can buy Twitter for 9.74 billion dollars if you want."
Musk's lawyer Marc Toberoff, who submitted the original bid, tells WSJ that the investor group will match or outbid any potential counteroffers.
Altman wants to transform the company from a more idealistic direction – with the original ambition to create an open technology source not driven by profit requirements – to a profit-driven company, which Musk does not want.
The world's richest man, who co-founded Open AI, has several unresolved legal conflicts with Sam Altman. Among other things, Musk sued Open AI just over a year ago because the company focuses too much on making profits.
Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump announced that Open AI and Oracle, as well as Japanese Softbank, under the name Stargate, will invest up to 500 billion dollars in infrastructure for artificial intelligence – a statement Musk openly questioned.
Musk and Altman started Open AI together in 2015, then as a non-profit organization. But in 2019, after Musk left the company, Altman began transforming it, including by allowing Microsoft to become a major investor through a subsidiary.
