A woman in Luleå wanted to change her first name to Marijuana, but was rejected by the Tax Agency, writes Norrländska Socialdemokraten.
The woman, who is in her 45s, submitted her application in September.
"According to the Tax Agency's assessment, the name Marijuana can be assumed to offend the general public, since marijuana is a commonly known term for cannabis", it says in the Tax Agency's rejection.
The authority also refers to the naming legislation to motivate the decision:
"You may change to a first name that does not offend, can be assumed to cause discomfort for the person who will bear the name, or for any other reason is unsuitable as a first name."
