The European School in Malmköping, Flen, has cancelled orienteering lessons in physical education and called off an outdoor day on the Sörmlandsleden trail, since a wolf has been spotted in the vicinity, reports P4 Sörmland.
"During the past week, there have been increasingly frequent reports of wolves in direct proximity to densely populated areas here in Malmköping," writes the principal in a letter to staff, students, and parents, which has also been published on Facebook.
The principal continues to write that they will have ongoing contact with the County Administrative Board to determine how to proceed with, among other things, next week's planned school jogging event.
The County Administrative Board has yet to determine which wolf is involved.
We have a territory that lies nearby, so an educated guess is that it's a year-old wolf from that territory that has discovered it's easier to hunt near cities than to chase hoofed game in the forest, says predator handler Markus Södling to TT.
The wolf is not considered more dangerous to humans than other wolves, since it still exhibits shy behavior towards humans, despite moving near residential areas.
We'll see if we can effectively and efficiently scare this wolf and get it to return to a peaceful and quiet life in the forest, rather than running among the villas in Malmköping.
