Sebastian Söderberg collapsed totally – and Linn Grant could shoot past through a super round.
Sweden was shocked after the victory in the Scandinavian Mixed.
Sebastian Söderberg was comforted by his near and dear ones directly after the collapse at Vasatorps GK. The winner Linn Grant hardly knew how to feel after her second career victory in the Swedish European Championships golf tournament.
Linn Grant was 11 strokes behind before the decisive round, but could understand Söderberg's mental battle as the lead shrank particularly over the last nine holes. At the same time, a new storm rolled in over southwestern Skåne.
It's even hard to enjoy the victory, says Grant.
Grant stood warming up for a potential playoff when she heard the audience's reaction to Söderberg's missed bogey putt on the 18th hole.
It became a double bogey for Söderberg on the 18th hole and 77 strokes for the day (five over par). In total, he finished 16 strokes under par – one stroke behind Grant. In the end, the 24-year-old secured the victory through a sunk chip for birdie on the very last hole.
Grant took care of Sunday's best round herself when she went seven under par. Some kind of celebration will naturally follow, despite the mixed emotions.
The victory in Sweden means that Grant will climb the world rankings and she can now be on her way to snatching one of the two blue and yellow spots for the World Championships in Paris.
The selection takes place after the major tournament PGA Championship in the USA, which is completed during the midsummer weekend.
