Since April, the Palestinian association has on several occasions requested that Israel be expelled from football, both national teams and club teams, due to the war in Gaza.
The Palestinian Football Association accuses Israel of human rights violations, discrimination, and racism, and believes it is a breach of FIFA's statutes.
FIFA has postponed a decision on the matter several times. On Thursday, it was announced that an independent committee will now investigate whether the Israeli Football Association should be expelled.
What is important to us is that the investigation was unanimously approved by the entire FIFA council. We will continue to follow this up and we will uphold our rights. FIFA cannot afford to ignore the violations, says Jibril Rajoub, head of the Palestinian association.
His Israeli counterpart, Shino Moshe Zuares, calls the accusations "cynical, political, and hostile" and insists that the Israeli Football Association has not breached any FIFA rules.
